Danube: Sediment Shifts in Interstitial Space
Herwig Turk and Gebhard Sengmüller joined together with experts to explore the Danube southeast of Vienna, a landscape in a field of tension between industry and national park. Situated between an industrial area, a recreational area, and the ecologically sensitive Donau-Auen National Park, this region has been heavily reshaped in recent centuries by building, river regulation, stabilization, and war; one would be hard pressed to find more greatly contrasting elements in a landscape of such compact dimensions.
In spring 2023, the artists presented the results of their first year’s work at Galerie rauminhalt_harald bichler in Vienna, bringing them together to form a multi-layered space of experience.
The exhibition was accompanied by the publication Donau: Schichtwechsel im Lückenraum / Danube: Sediment Shifts in Interstitial Space, edited by Harald Bichler and Reinhard Braun, Vienna 2023.
